I鈥檓 First
I’M FIRST: The concept of a 鈥淔irst-Generation鈥 student was introduced into federal policy by the passage of higher education amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965. As a result of this amendment, we have the opportunity to celebrate those who have made huge strides in this country, and have become the first in their families to attend college.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 吃瓜头条 will join in a day of celebration with other colleges across the nation that are engaged in a number of different activities, highlighting First-Generation students on campus. Students, faculty, staff, and administration will have the opportunity to share their own personal experiences as a First-Generation college student, and the impact that experience has had on their lives. Please obtain a free I’m First Shirt at the Pre-Collegiate and Access Programs.
10 a.m. – Please gather at the Higgins Hall Patio
10 a.m. 鈥 2 p.m.: Students, faculty, and administration will share their experiences
1:50 p.m. 鈥 First-Generation students and graduates group picture
2 p.m. 鈥 Event concludes
Light refreshments will be provided.
If you are a First-generation student or graduate, please stop by the Pre-Collegiate and Access Programs Office in Warner Hall, Room 103, to obtain an I’m First shirt.
