MIS Cyber Security Lab

In support of the BBA in Cyber Security degree program, your IT&I department in close partnership with members of the Management Information Systems department in our Ancell School of Business have implemented a Cyber Security lab that allows students to actively participate in cyber security exercises to gain knowledge and training on the managerial and business side of Cybersecurity.

The project took about a year to complete and went live for the Fall 2019 semester. Patricia O’Neill, IT&I Infrastructure Services Manager led the effort and was assisted by multiple IT&I staff and MIS department members.

Our my�Թ�ͷ�� Mobile app, which was deployed this past January, 2019 continues to evolve and improve. It pulls together everything our users need into one place. Students can access their WestConn mail, course schedules, Blackboard and more and everyone can stay connected to the many exciting campus events and follow along on social media as well. Please download it today from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

New Identity Management System

Information Technology & Innovation is pleased to announce the launch of Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM), which went live last month (July, 2019). MIM allows for effective identity lifecycle management and when fully deployed, will enable us to provision (and deprovision) users with the access rights to the systems they need and rely upon until such time that access is no longer required. With our initial deployment, we have automated our Student Account creation such that newly enrolled students will now receive an email at the address they provided admissions with a link and instructions on ‘activating’ their student WestConn account. This is the credential needed to access their mail, the Learning Managements System, wireless network and many other applications. In the past, students would need to visit one of our Campus Computer labs or wait in line at orientation for a lab worker to create their accounts. MIM not only avoids that hassle but students will now have their accounts available to them well ahead of when they arrive on campus – just one less thing to worry about!

Higgins Hall Technology

With the transformation of Higgins Hall comes state of the are technology to support our faculty in delivering teaching and learning to our students. Along with smartly designed study spaces, over 350 new computers have been deployed to classrooms, labs and other common areas. In addition, the latest Smart Boards and digital signage displays have been installed throughout the building.

Innovation Lab – iLab

Announcing our newest technology space – Innovation Lab (iLab) located on the Westside Campus Center – CC1 25, where students, faculty and staff can be immersed in Virtual Reality simulations – both passive and active. Imagine experiencing a ride as a passenger in a World War II bomber, explore world heritage sites, float around and perform tasks such as space walks on a space station. iLab also contains spaces for Podcasting and to host e-meetings as well as a space for lecture capture. But that’s not all, there are also eight general purpose computers with print capabilities and six Xbox consoles. These amenities are also available at our Midtown location WH 013.
