Information Technology & Innovation /iti ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ Thu, 15 May 2025 16:42:58 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 Blackboard Learn Ultra is coming! /iti/2025/05/15/blackboard-learn-ultra-is-coming/ Thu, 15 May 2025 16:42:58 +0000 /iti/?p=2004 We are excited to share important news about the ongoing and final stages of transitioning toÌýBlackboard Learn Ultra Course View. As part of our continued efforts to improve the technology experience for faculty and students, we are moving towards a new, more streamlined and intuitive version of BlackboardÌýLearn which will significantly enhance your teaching experience and improve the way students interact with course materials.

Anthology (Blackboard) has announced that they will no longer be supporting their legacy environment, Blackboard Learn Original View, after December 2026. Courses prior to this date will be available in ‘read only’ mode going forward.

We are taking a phased approach transitioning to Ultra as follows:

  • Spring/Summer 2025: Phase I consists of the School of Professional Studies (SPS) who has kindly volunteered to be early adopters (along with a few other non SPS faculty) to teach their Fall 2025 courses in Ultra Course View. Training begins at the end of May and will continue throughout the summer and fall.
  • Fall 2025: Phase II involves continued training for the SPS faculty, in addition to providing training for all remaining faculty.
  • Spring 2026: Phase III and the final stage in which all courses and organizations will be migrated and conducted in full Ultra Course View. Training will be an ongoing process.

Please check out our webpage for continued updates on the Ultra transition project.

Microsoft Office Upgrades will be rolling out to Faculty & Staff Computers /iti/2021/02/09/microsoft-office-upgrade/ Tue, 09 Feb 2021 22:05:19 +0000 /iti/?p=1147 As part of our ongoing efforts to provide the latest technology, ITI will be deploying an upgrade of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project) to all University-owned computers on campus starting the evening of this Thursday, Feb 11. This upgrade will remove the current version, Office 2016, from your computer. This upgrade to Microsoft Office 365 includes better integration with OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office on the web.

This upgrade will occur during the off-hours overnight and will only happen if your machine is on campus and connected to the network via a network cable. The upgrade will happen automatically in the background. Classrooms and Old Main staff have already received the upgrade over Winter intersession.

To ensure the upgrade goes as smooth as possible, we are asking you to Log Off (do not shut down) your machines at the end of the work day on Thursday this week. If you are using Pulse Secure VPN, please log off of your remote computer instead of closing the Remote Desktop window. For individuals working with their ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ computers off-site, you can bring your computer to campus and leave it powered on and connected to the network overnight in your office to receive the upgrade on Thursday or at any point after.

You may also arrange a time to drop your machine off to ITI by contacting the Service Desk at RequestIT@wcsu.edu. Turnaround time is next business day for the upgrade.

Changes to our University Network – re-purposing of WestConn Secure SSID /iti/2019/12/13/changes-to-our-university-network-re-purposing-of-westconn-secure-ssid/ Fri, 13 Dec 2019 18:56:51 +0000 /iti/?p=887 To maintain compliance with CSCU Board Of Regents security standards and industry best practices for securing our university network, we will be eliminating the use of static passwords as a means of gaining access to our wireless network. ÌýAn example of this is the password that permits access to the WestConn Secure SSID.

As a result, on Tuesday, December 17th,Ìýthe WestConn Secure wireless network will be limited to IT&I staff who require elevated networkÌýprivileges required to perform their job duties. ÌýFaculty and staff should connect via Western-BYOD using their network credentials.Ìý We recommend your devices so that they will be known and trusted by our network.Ìý Keep in mind all of the above SSID’s are properly secured.

We strongly encourage you start using the Western-BYOD network at your earliest convenience so that any issues can be addressed prior to the change.

Please contact our Service Desk for any questions or assistance at RequestIT@wcsu.edu or 203-837-8467.

You can also find out answers to many IT related questions or learn about the technology available to you here at ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ via our .

As always, we thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Notes:

A static Password is a type ofÌýpasswordÌýthat is typically used to login to various accounts and services every single day. It is aÌýpasswordÌýthat, for the most part, remains the same from the moment it is created, until it is changed or updated for that specific account.

An SSID (Service Set IDentifier) is the name assigned to a Wi-Fi (wireless) network. All devices in the network must use this case-sensitive name to communicate over Wi-Fi, which is a text string up to 32 bytes long.

IT Security Advisory: Car wrap scam targets college students and staff /iti/2019/12/13/it-security-advisory-car-wrap-scam-targets-college-students-and-staff/ Fri, 13 Dec 2019 15:22:43 +0000 /iti/?p=877 Don’t ruin your holidays – These scams are not new, there is only easy money for the scammers. Please remember that you are the last line of defense – Think and research offers before you act and warn others of these scams before they fall for them.

If you have a car, you know how expensive the upkeep can be. Gas, maintenance, parking – the whole lot. So what if a company offered to pay you to drive around – which you were already doing – with their branding wrapped onto your car? It could sound like a good deal.

University Phone dial plan change /iti/2019/10/14/university-phone-dial-plan-change/ Mon, 14 Oct 2019 15:37:10 +0000 /iti/?p=840 Over the past few years, our ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ Police Dept. has received an increasing number of false 911 calls.ÌýÌýUsers have been inadvertently dialing 91+1+area code/number, instead of 9+1+area code/number.ÌýThe false 911 calls automatically dispatch Danbury and ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ Police officers who have to respond and investigate. To address this issue, IT&I will be changing our current ‘dial 9’ for external calls with ‘dial 8’.Ìý The change will be implemented this Friday evening after 6PM.

Please remember to dial 8 for external calls as 9 will no longer work.Ìý Dialing 911 will still reach Danbury and ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ Police.

If you have any speed dials programmed on your phones, please update them with the new 8 prefix.

Please contact the Service Desk if you need assistance at X78467 or requestit@wcsu.edu.

Thank you in advance for your help in reducing false 911 calls.
