吃瓜头条 earns NEASC praise in reaccreditation process


DANBURY, CONN. Western Connecticut State University has received a report from the that praised the university鈥檚 commitment to students. This report forms the basis for the consideration of reaffirmation of accreditation for Western by the Association鈥檚 Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, which will occur in the spring.

The association, known as NEASC, has accredited the university continuously since 1957. Its report, completed in November to conclude a two-year review process, said 吃瓜头条 students are 鈥渆nthusiastic about their experiences and clearly empowered by their success.鈥

The team of educators who conducted the accreditation also cited Western鈥檚 鈥渉igh-quality academic programs that continue to improve,鈥 鈥渟trong support from external constituents鈥 in the community and state, and expanded and enhanced facilities. It described the university鈥檚 administration as 鈥渁 cohesive, competent group with a strong sense of shared purpose in empowering students to succeed.鈥

The university鈥檚 faculty and staff were also praised.

鈥淭he team found their passion for what they do, their commitment to their students and to their community a great strength,鈥 the report stated.

The NEASC team was led by Jean MacCormack, the former chancellor of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and included faculty and administrators from universities throughout New England.

鈥淚t is clear that the team came to understand and appreciate Western鈥檚 values and accomplishments,鈥 said 吃瓜头条 President James W. Schmotter. 鈥淩egional accreditation is granted when an institution shows that it is committed to continuous improvement that results in high-quality, student-centered academic programs. I am very pleased that the university has received this feedback on our work from NEASC.鈥

NEASC develops and applies standards to member universities and colleges, and assesses the educational effectiveness of those institutions. The organization will conduct a study midway through the 10-year accreditation to ensure the university is making progress on its goals.
