History
The Student Leadership Recognition Banquet is an annual event that celebrates and recognizes the achievements of Western’s student leaders through a festive banquet and awards ceremony attended by students, parents, faculty and staff alike.
The banquet was first held in 1985 and has grown in attendance and significance ever since.Ìý Held at first on campus and then at various locations in the Greater Danbury area, the last few years have seen it held consistently at the elegantÌýÌýin Danbury.Ìý In 2011 and 2013 the banquet was held at in the former Union Carbide building and returned to the Amber Room in 2014. In 2017 the banquet was held at the Ethan Allen Hotel. In 2018 and 2019 the banquet was held once again be held at the Amber Room Colonnade. The banquet for 2020 was supposed to be held on campus in the O’Neill Center but was canceled due to Covid-19 and replaced by an . In 2021, another was created and a smaller scale, in-person ceremony took place in the O’Neill Center. In 2022, the full banquet returned with around 330 guests attending the 37th annual banquet and award ceremony held in the O’Neill Center. In 2023,Ìý the 38th Annual Student Leadership Recognition Banquet returned to the Amber Room Colonnade.ÌýÌý
The event is held annually, usually in early May, and has grown from just a few to as many as 500 guests at one time.ÌýEvery year two members of each student organization are invited to the banquet along with the organization’s advisor.ÌýAdditional club members and parents/guests may also be invited at cost or through a table sponsorship (see details above) and will be sent an invitation upon request.
