Ricky Lurie – Adjunct Instructor (Costume Design)

Ricky Lurie (AdjunctÌýInstructor)Ìýis a New York-based costume designer, specializing in theater and dance.

Some of Ricky’sÌýfavorite New York design credits includeÌýLife Could Be A DreamÌý(Cortland Repertory),ÌýGodspellÌý(The Gallery Players),ÌýThe Singapore MikadoÌý(Theater 2020), andÌýChurchill, the playÌý(Off-Broadway at New World Stages). Ricky spent 1 year working at the Stella Adler Acting Studio, designing productions ofÌýPeer Gynt,ÌýFen, andÌýLysistrata. Before moving to New York, Ricky designed and assisted on over 60 shows in the ChicagoÌýarea. He had the privilege of working with Redtwist Theater, Fox Valley Repertory, Light Opera Works, Bailiwick Theater, Red Tape Theater, Oak Park Festival Theatre, CityLit Theater, American Blues Theater, and Route 66.

Ricky isÌýthe associate costume designer on Broadway’sÌýAnastasia. Opening at the Hartford Stage in 2016, the musical transferred to Broadway in 2017, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Costume Design in a Musical. ÌýHe ÌýRicky has also served as the associate designer on various regional theater productions includingÌýOctober SkyÌý(Old Globe, San Diego),ÌýA Raisin in the SunÌý(Timeline Theater, Chicago), andÌýConcerning Strange Devices from the Distant WestÌý(Timeline Theater, Chicago).

Additionally, Ricky hasÌýdesigned several dance pieces for the University of Hartford Hartt School of Dance. HeÌýhas also had the pleasure of being theÌýthe assistant designer on numerous ballets includingÌýWhipped CreamÌý(American Ballet Theater),ÌýThe NutcrackerÌý(Charlotte Ballet and Kansas City Ballet),ÌýSwan LakeÌý(Kansas City Ballet, additional costumes), andÌýThe Enchanted ToyshopÌý(Richmond Ballet). Ricky can also be seenÌýservingÌýas the costume consultant at American DanceÌýMachine for the 21st Century and the Chita River Awards.

Ricky, a proud member of USA 829, received his MFA in Production and Costume Design from Ohio University and his BA in Theater Design from Columbia College Chicago. He also completed a professional internship with Gregg Barnes Studio, where he gained valuable costume design experience working on the Broadway production ofÌýAladdin.
