Abstract:听Meteorology has a significant听daily impact on most humans. The decisions we make from dining outside, bringing our听umbrella to work, or changing a flight rely on accurate weather forecasts. Meteorologists are individuals who have the expertise听and specialty training to compare, analyze, and interpret weather model听data. Many people rely on their native smartphone application or untrained online sources to provide them with their daily weather. This talk will focus on the critical training meteorologists听complete to allow for accurate prediction. Specifically, the interpretation听and messaging of the weather data to create an accurate, comprehensible, and functional forecast for the public and 鈥渉umanizing the forecast鈥 will be outlined.

Bio: Gil Simmons was a Meteorologist/Oceanographer on active duty with the United States Marine Corps from 1990-1996. Following his time with the Marines, he finished his training at 吃瓜头条 graduating in 1999. He has been a TV Broadcast Meteorologist since 1998, starting at NEWS12 Connecticut and Westchester, NY. Presently 听he serves Connecticut as the Chief Meteorologist for NEWS8 & has been a member of the team at WTNH since 2003. He currently holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certification from the American Meteorological Society.
